QuickScreen Online Dyslexia Test for Individuals

Are you wondering if you are dyslexic? With the comprehensive QuickScreen online dyslexia test you could have an accurate answer within an hour and a valuable insight into your individual learning profile.

The test is based on recognised assessment methods and is ideal for native and fluent English-speaking individuals (aged 17+) – often based in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada.

Our mission is to ensure that everyone can access an affordable online dyslexia test.

NEW! When you purchase a QuickScreen online dyslexia test, there is now an option to choose an additional reading skills test, currently free of charge.

What does the QuickScreen online dyslexia test consist of?

There are 6 unique parts to the QuickScreen online dyslexia test: Verbal Skills, Visual Skills, Vocabulary, Memory, Sequencing and Processing Skills.

  • As a rough guide, they each take on average 5-10 minutes to complete. So approximately 1 hour in total.
  • You can complete the 6 elements in any order and you don’t have to complete all sections of the test in one go. Just log in to your account again and complete the next section when you are ready.
  • You can complete the test on a PC, Mac, iPad or tablet – but NOT a mobile phone.

As well as students and people in the early stages of their career, we have many adults over 50 taking our online dyslexia test after decades of difficulties with aspects of literacy and learning.

Like many thousands of people each year, you can choose the QuickScreen online dyslexia test because it has a more extensive cognitive and literacy skills report, along with individually tailored recommendations for future action.

Will this online dyslexia test report help me to get support?

The simple answer is yes, in many cases the QuickScreen online dyslexia test report will help you.

QuickScreen has a high accuracy rate of 93% with a strong predictive capacity for dyslexia of 97% (independently verified)

The report offers a basis for tailored support and the provision of reasonable adjustments at work, or, for students, a recommended action plan to discuss with your tutor/assessor.

Many employers accept the QuickScreen online dyslexia test report as evidence of SpLD / Dyslexia and implement reasonable adjustments and support.

The DVLA also accepts online screening tests for access to reasonable adjustments in the driving theory test.

This is because an independent statistical survey confirmed the strong association between the QuickScreen online dyslexia test (£34.50), and an independent dyslexia assessment with an educational psychologist (that costs many hundreds of pounds).

Which Online Dyslexia Test is right for me?

We offer two online dyslexia test options for individuals – QuickScreen and QuickScan.

You can choose to use one or both products depending on your requirements, age and budget.

You can use the QuickScan questionnaire (£14.50) as an initial online dyslexia test if you are aged from 14 years upwards.

If this reveals an indicator of dyslexia, you can choose to then undertake QuickScreen (£34.50) if you are aged 17+. Or you can simply go directly to the QuickScreen test and not use QuickScan at all.

QuickScreen is a more comprehensive online dyslexia test for those aged 17+ (because this requires a higher level of English – GCSE+).

Please contact us if you have any questions.

“The professional service from QS is absolutely fantastic! Diagnosis is quick, problem areas highlighted and their next step advice is extremely helpful! I would recommend this online dyslexia test to anyone. Thank you for taking the time to help me, it’s changed my life!”

Before you start your Online Dyslexia Test

  • The QuickScreen Processing Skills section includes a reading passage and short dictation. The reading passage is pitched at the higher end of GCSE level and is suitable for candidates aged 17+. It is therefore likely to be quite challenging for anybody who has not attained a GCSE in English, but it is possible.
  • It is recommended that you complete as much of the dictation as you can. If you don’t know the spelling of a word, you can type it in as best you can. The more information provided the more your results will be of help and relevance. Whilst there are some harder words to spell, at least two thirds of the content is made up of words you will probably find quite straightforward.
  • If you are specifically interested in your handwriting speed being part of the report, then please ensure to choose the handwriting AND typing option. Otherwise you will only be asked to type your response.

A few tips from other users

  • “All the online dyslexia test sections have practice items and some give immediate feedback – so it’s worthwhile doing these to ensure the most accurate outcome. Do not try and fast track through the tests.”
  • “It is advisable to complete a whole section before logging off. You can log in again and complete the next section when you are ready. You will be able to clearly see which tests you have completed as you go along.”
  • “On finishing the test you will have immediate access to your report and will be able to save and/or print copies.”

We welcome your feedback and reviews on our online dyslexia test. Please get in touch with the QS Dyslexia Team via our contact page and/or leave us a Google review.

AM

The QuickScreen online dyslexia test is based on academic and practical experience with dyslexic adults over several decades. There is much research that has been carried out by Pico Education as well as by organisations themselves who use the products.

The original basis of the online dyslexia test was developed under the auspices of a PhD (at Leicester University) and government funded project (at Kingston University) and overseen by a committee of dyslexia specialists. Some of the key dyslexia tests have been correlated with other diagnostic tests and are well established.

All the background research is documented and available on our website in the Research section. In 2021 we had an independent statistical survey undertaken, which confirmed earlier findings regarding the strong association between the QuickScreen dyslexia test and an independent dyslexia assessment with an educational psychologist. (costing many hundreds of pounds).

The QuickScreen online dyslexia test is estimated to have a high overall accuracy rate of 93% together with a strong predictive capacity for dyslexia of 97%.

There are no prerequisites or preparation required to do the test. You just need a desire to get some insight into whether you haveSpLD/dyslexia or to find out more about how you learn, and a reasonable working knowledge of spoken and written English.

The QuickScreen online dyslexia test is available via our website for anyone who wants to test themselves.
Do find a quiet environment with as little distraction as possible and get into a calm and positive frame of mind.

All of our online dyslexia test sections have an instructional video before you start and some practice items. The report outcomes are self-explanatory, but where any queries crop up you can contact us.

The report after completing your QuickScreen online dyslexia test is detailed and very practical – similar to what a specialist tutor would compile.

It is clearly set out, comprehensive and, where required, will give you suggestions for how to build on existing skills with specific recommendations for future action.

This is followed by bar graphs showing your results in all the items and gives you three conclusions:

  • The first is whether you have indicators of SpLD/dyslexia and this is qualified by giving you the reasons why this conclusion has been reached
  • The second is your overall literacy skills level in relation to your other results, so you are given a reference point based on your own general performance
  • The third is your overall speed of processing over a variety of tasks when using both language and symbols, which once again is measured against your own level of performance in the other tasks.

If you understand your level of SpLD/dyslexia via an online dyslexia test, you can plan strategies to use your strengths to your advantage and find ways of dealing and managing the weaker areas. You cannot do this quite so effectively if you do not have this information to hand.

If you know your literacy level you have a way forward to upgrade your skills and knowledge as required.

In addition, your speed of reaction, working things out in your head, of grasping the meaning of text and bringing your own experience to interact quickly and efficiently with whatever task is before you, is a key to being successful in your chosen course of study or work.

Having an understanding of your own speed of processing will allow you to be focused on selecting the right allocation of time, concentration and working environment to get the best results.

The first thing to mention is that the QuickScreen online dyslexia test is designed in such a way that if you crash out of it unexpectedly, it will, once you log in again, take you automatically to the nearest point you were working on.

Your account will still be active so you should be able to access it, and if there is a problem with passwords etc – just put in your email address and click on forgotten password.

Sometimes it would appear that your email address goes into the ‘Incomplete registration’ list. This will have the effect of stopping you from re-entry into your QuickScreen online dyslexia test.

This can occur if you move off the PayPal platform too quickly. So whilst you will have received the email link – no payment would have been taken and the connection would have been broken. You can check your PayPal to confirm.

If you contact us we will remove the email address and you can easily re-register.

Please check carefully when you enter your email address into the online dyslexia test– sometimes an error is made and this can lead to getting blocked from entry. Please try again before contacting us, to ensure that it isn’t just a typo.
If you are still having problems, please contact us.

Unlike other computer based screening tests for SpLD/dyslexia, QuickScreen provides a more extensive cognitive and literacy skills report together with individually tailored recommendations.

QuickScreen offers you the chance to test yourself.

You can start with the Processing Skills task – basic literacy, processing and memory. You can immediately view your results on a bar graph and check your levels for reading speed, writing and /or typing speed, understanding of written text, quality of spelling and punctuation, memory span for spoken language and your level of accuracy in taking a short dictation. This can be done in about 10 minutes.

You can then go on to complete the other 5 tasks in the online dyslexia test, and receive a detailed individual report with recommendations for skills improvement and ways to have your difficulties accommodated.

Completing the test will put you in a position to access support which is individually geared to your particular strengths and weaknesses. All the online dyslexia test items are fully explained and have video instructions.

The QuickScreen online dyslexia test is not specifically designed to test for dyscalculia and a more specialised test would be needed. However, as with a standard SpLD/dyslexia assessment, there will be an indication if you have problems doing the memory task.

This task requires you to show your ability for immediate recall of numbers and for working out sequences of numbers in your head correctly, which is a vital element in doing arithmetic.

Equally, in the sequencing task, if you have difficulties with the direction of shapes and remembering mirror opposites of symbols then this will be picked up. So, it can act as a good starting point.

It is a positive first step and is very likely to pick up any residual difficulties that appear in your learning profile. Some tasks are more conducive to the use of compensatory methods to get by, but others are not so easy to pass even using strategies, and if you have a difficulty.
For people who are high achievers. this online dyslexia test will be able to test you regardless of your educational level, you could have GCSEs, A levels, a degree or a postgraduate degree such as PhD – it will still be relevant and if you have any residual processing difficulties these will usually be identified.

Whatever your speed of working through tasks that involve reading and writing, and worries with regard to what will show up in an online dyslexia test, it is still a very positive first step to finding out exactly where you are at the present time.

It will put you in a position to access support which is individually geared to your particular strengths and weaknesses. All the online dyslexia test items are fully explained and have video instructions.

The literacy section is geared to also cater for those who have more severe difficulties, in that you can carry out the practice item in full, you can re-do it if you need to, and if you cannot cope with the main dictation then your report will still offer you feedback at an intermediate level.

In some ways working with an online dyslexia test may be less daunting than being interviewed. As long as you approach the task in a relaxed state and look upon it as a game or a challenge that is there to be enjoyed, then you will get a detailed picture of your learning potential.

Some people are more likely to be relaxed and prefer to be tested by another person, and in such a case you could either have someone nearby when doing it, or opt for a one-to-one session with a dyslexia tutor or educational psychologist, rather than using an online dyslexia test.

The main thing to remember is to prepare yourself by finding a quiet place to work in – with a minimum of distractions – and get into a calm state of readiness in your mind.

Also, you can do the sections of the QuickScreen online dyslexia test in any order you like over several sittings. You can do one task and then leave it for a day or two or a week before doing another item.

This is a specialist area that requires appropriate testing. However, if it is an area you are concerned about then you may wish to try the handwriting option on the processing task.

If you have a tendency to write slowly, or not very legibly, then this task will highlight it. When you put in your hand written text onto the computer, your speed and accuracy of doing so will be checked.

This would be a starting point to arranging further tests as it is only one aspect of dyspraxia (fine motor-skills).

There are some tasks in the QuickScreen online dyslexia test that do not rely on English language. It is possible to get a tentative indication of SpLD/dyslexia by testing for memory and sequencing.

The vocabulary test is a good indicator of fluency in English language and the report will flag up any difficulties that are encountered.

If English is a second or third language, then as long as you have a working knowledge of spoken and written English there is no reason for not doing this online dyslexia test.

The Processing Section (literacy – reading fluency, comprehension, spelling and punctuation) will give you an immediate idea of how well you are coping with literacy at adult level.

You may be quite good at spelling (if it was taught as a second language), but your knowledge of written vocabulary and your reading fluency will be put to the test here.

You will receive all the results of your online dyslexia test in both a graph and in a statistical summary.

When you apply for the PIP (that replaced the Disability Living Allowance), the referral may be passed on to your doctor, so it would be best to ask your doctor’s advice on this.

A copy of the QuickScreen online dyslexia test results may be submitted as part of the background supporting evidence, but we doubt that this alone would suffice, since it is an online and unmonitored test.

So we would highly recommend that you get further advice as your first step, and then please come back to us if we can help.

Yes, the DVLA/DVSA will now accept the online dyslexia test report as sufficient proof of assistance requirements for the driving Theory Test.
